Guilt By Association: Barack Obama Distances Himself from Pastor

The latest firestorm to hit the Obama Campaign is the public scrutiny of his pastor Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Wright a prominent religious leader and activist in the black community has taken a public bashing over some of his very provocative sermons. At issue are remarks Wright made condemning the U.S.A. He has used curse words while in the pulpit and used racial epithets such as the “N-word” to discuss the plight of African Americans. White America is in an uproar. In the comment section of numerous mainstream websites and blogs, the subject of Wright and Barack Obama’s association has many of his detractor’s taking direct hits at Obama and many are questioning his morality for associating with Pastor Wright. One commenter stated:

If that’s Obama’s idea of a “spiritual adviser” then his judgment is sorely limited.

Obama who has attended Trinity United Church of Christ for the past 20 years was married at the church and Wright was the officiating minister. Pastor Wright retired last month.
To refute his acceptance of Wright’s statements, Obama issued a public denouncement of the Pastor’s remarks and stated that he did not agree with him but also stated he had never heard any of these remarks before while he was sitting in the pews. Obama eventually removed Wright from his spiritual advisory committee.

Much of Wright’s sermons are echoed by many in the black community when it comes to the issue of blacks and their treatment in American society. Much of what he says is the “black reality”. If you noticed in the video like I did many in the congregation that day stood up to applaud Pastor Wright’s comments.
