Rev. Wright Speaks & The Attack On The Black Church

Barack Obama’s embattled former pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright ended his silence on the controversy and gave a number of speeches and interviews over the weekend. First he was interviewed by PBS’ Bill Moyers who is also an ordained preacher in what has become his 1st interview since the scandal erupted. He showed us during the interview just what Barack Obama and his church family saw in him…he was a thoughtful and thought-provoking, intelligent, reasonable and sincere man. I am even more impressed with him now after viewing the interview than I was when I saw the orginal “youtube” clips being played in the media. Check out some clips of the interview:

Next up…he attended a conference of the Detroit Chapter of the NAACP. Here is footage from that event:

He’s defintely not what the media made him out to be.

The situation with Rev. Wright has brought about a discussion about the media’s attack on the black church. Most black preachers (and some white preachers) agree that what has happened to Rev. Wright is the misunderstanding of the prophetic voice of the black church and that an attack on Rev. Wright and his teachings is also an attack on the church. Here ’s a video I found around the time the scandal erupted on The Power of the Church in the Black Community:

And here’s a couple of articles that speak on the same topic:

After viewing the video of Rev. Wright what are your thoughts on him and how this situation has played out? Do you feel like there is an attack on the black church or are the media’s depiction of Rev. Wright on point?

Until next time,

Rev. Wright behavior at the national press club was disgusting. He was arrogant and flippant. It is sad that he is getting all of this national attention. He like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson what to forever keep African American people stuck in the past and playing the victim. They want African American to play the role of the weak and blame everyone else for their problems. These self appointed “black leaders” are profiting of the back of struggling blacks seeking answers. We can uplift ourselves. We always have and are able to continue to do so. Rev. Wright with all of his intelligence is an idiot and the rock that keeps African American submerged under illusion of victimhood.
